Time for my monthly update, I guess. So much has happened! All of April has been "Krystal do this! Krystal there's a trip! Krystal you have to do that! Krystal there's another trip! Krystal this is due TOMORROW! Krystal you need more sleep! Krystal you can't sleep yet! Krystal you're procrastinating!"
All of May will probably be "Krystal there's a test! Krystal there's another test! Krystal you're neglecting your oboe! Krystal your left hand SUCKS at mallets! Krystal there's a recital! Krystal the AP test is tomorrow! Krystal the seniors are leaving! Krystal YOU'RE A SENIOR!" (

)
Anyway. I'll just copy excerpts from this letter I just sent to my babysitter in GA. It tells most of the major fun things that happened.
"...Our prom is this coming Saturday, but I've
decided not to go. I'm going to see Spiderman 3 with [Katie] instead,
if we can get in. If not, we'll probably go bowling (which I've never
done before).
Our friends had us convinced to go for a while there, but then the two
of us both had set backs... A movie is just more practical and way more fun. And neither of
us has a dress anyway. Deniece was going to give me her lavender one
(it's reeeally pretty) but she can't find it, and my friend's mother
had planned on taking her dress shopping, [but couldn't].
So. It'll be senior year for me, which will only make it more special.
And maybe by then I'll have opened up enough to meet some guy. And
maybe not. I really don't expect to meet much of anyone until college
anyway. ^^
Our band trip to Dallas, Texas was fun. We went to Six Flags, and I
rode a rollercoaster! Can you believe it? No, it wasn't just the Mine
Train (though I DID ride that one). It was a wooden one called the
Texas Giant. And I had lots of fun. [Katie] ALMOST convinced me to ride The Titan, which
is pretty infamous at that park, but we left just before I convinced
myself that maybe I could have done it.
And I even conned Austin (another friend) into buying me a slushy for
getting on the rollercoaster. He tried to get his girlfriend to go with
us, but she was absolutely terrified and got out at the last moment. So
it was the three of us, and we had loads of fun.
We also went to Medieval Times, and that was a blast. It's basically a
show. You get assigned a color, which tells you which Knight you're
supposed to cheer for. Ours was the Blue Knight. Then you wait around
in the general shopping area until the show starts, and you get seated
in your color section, and they serve you a meal without any
silverware, and you eat it Medieval style: with hands. It was
delicious. They gave us vegetable soup, bread, half a chicken, prime
rib, a potato halve, and your choice of either Pepsi or Tea. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Our Knight won quite a few of the contests, but then he had to lose
because it was part of the show. Every time he won, though, he got
three flowers and tossed them to some girls in his section. I didn't
get one, of course, and neither did any of my friends. That was my only
disappointment in the Knight. But otherwise, I was literally screaming
myself hoarse cheering him on and booing everyone else. Totally
Medieval style.
Plus, I bought a sparkly blue crown, and liked it. It reminded me of the days when all I wanted was to be a princess.
And before the Dallas trip, I went to Katie's birthday party. Deniece
and all my uncles happened to be down that same weekend, so Deniece got
to go to the party with me. It was an absolute BLAST! Ah, you wouldn't
believe it! We rode a Sea-Doo, and I got to drive. We went tubing
and laughed ourselves breathless. We got pushed off the dock
unexpectedly, and I decided to announce (while I was in the water) that
I can't swim very well. Deniece was the smart one, because she pulled
herself around to the ladder. It took two people to pull me directly
from the water onto the dock.
Oooh, and introducing Deniece was a laugh in itself. Katie's mom
automatically assumed I was the older one, because I'm taller and
bigger than Deniece now, and she looks about 12 years old while I look
about 14 or so. I made sure I was standing RIGHT next to her, nice and
close, while I introduced her.
And even after we left the party, we did something so ditsy. I found a
mysterious phone in my purse and we returned it to them, thinking it
was Katie's or someone else's. Then we got 15 or so minutes away from
the house when Austin called me and said that I had given them
Deniece's phone. XD Can you believe that? We felt so dumb.
So yeah. I've made a lot of fun, happy memories this last year, and
it's not even over yet. This summer I'll be at Mom's again, and she
plans on taking me to New Mexico for about a week.
I also got through Driver's Ed, but the course wasn't a very good one,
so I need more practice before I take the test. My Spanish class ended
tonight. I did a presentation and then we went to dinner, which was
fun.
...If I can remember to think of it, I'll print some pictures and send
them to you. My Aunt caught a picture of me eating escargot for the
first time. It's pretty funny, and you'll like seeing me in all my
formal wear..."
End of letter.
Maybe I can post some of those pictures here, neh? Or maybe that's just not safe on the Internet. Probably not safe. I'll just bring them to school and show them off to people I actually know and go to school with.
So next year my schedule will look something like this:
Band
AP English Lit
AP Calculus
AP Chemistry
AP Spanish
Arkansas History/Counselor's aide
Instrumental Solo and Ensemble
Joy. I can't say I'm looking forward to it. This year already ran me through the ringer, but I did have those night classes, so... maybe I'll be able to handle more next year. And maybe I'll actually be driving myself, which will allow for more homework time and less bus-riding.
Overall I'm happy, but somewhat dreading the passage of time. Happiness doesn't last, after all. Things change in a mix of better and worse. Katie will move. I'll be a senior, and I'll have to make some awful decisions.
Unlike most people, I enjoy high school, and wouldn't miss a day of it just to sit around at home, gloating because I'm in the oldest age group. Woo. I'm an adult. So what? As if legal age means anything.
Excuse me while I take my mood swing somewhere else.
